‘Daredevil' is one of the many comic-to-film books this year. It's about a man named Matt Murdock (Ben Affleck) who as a child had an accident and was turned blind. The blindness seemed to make every other sense stronger. And now as a man he sports a cool leather costume goes around town kicking major villain butt.
Early in the film Matt falls in love with a woman named Elektra played by Jennifer Garner. The chemistry between them two is great. Matt hasn't ever felt this way about a woman before. In this film, Daredevil goes up against two villains: Kingpin (Michael Clarke Duncan) and Bullseye (Colin Farrell). Kingpin is the king of crime. He assigns Bullseye to kill Elektra's father. I don't want to say anything more or I'll give everything away.
I wasn't that actually excited as I sat down and was about to watch the film. I've heard tons of bad reviews and I usually don't pay any attention to them, but there were so many of them. But I left the theater happy and thrilled. It was actually a pretty fun film. Full of cool special effects and a really dark tone. That's what I liked most about it. The dark tone. Unlike ‘Spider-Man' this isn't a bright family film. There's actually real issues like murder and love. It reminded me of the first ‘Batman' film. I just hope this franchise doesn't turn like the ‘Batman' franchise.
Ben Affleck is one of the better superheroes I've seen in a while. He really pulled it off well. He has that quality. He gives us a good performance that we actually feel for and relate to. Jennifer Garner (one of the hottest actresses in the world) does a magnificent job here. But I don't think they used her enough.
And I think that the bad guy characters were pulled off great. Michael Clarke Duncan is really scary and powerful as Kingpin. Farrell does a great job at pulling off Bullseye. I think he's the only one who could have played the part.
Mark Steven Johnson surprised me. The writer of ‘Jack Frost' and ‘Grumpy Old Men' and director of ‘Simon Birch'. I wonder how he got this freaking gig. He directs great with cool camera movements and shows what really a ‘Daredevil' film should look like.
If you liked the comic I think you're gonna love this. A dark and scary superhero film that I think will give you more pleasure than ‘Spider-Man' did.
